What is DFU restore?
Device Firmware Update (DFU) restore is a deep restore which fixes all device issues. It reloads the software and firmware in your device.
Different iDevices have different methods of DFU restore. In this article, we will help you perform the restore on your device.
If you’ll open the iTunes window while your device is in DFU mode, iTunes will alert you that your device is in recovery mode.
DFU Restore in iPad, iPhone 6, 6s Plus, iPod Touch
STEP 1
Connect your device to your personal computer using a working cable.
STEP 2
Hold down the home button and lock button together.
STEP 3
After 8 seconds, release the lock button but keep the home button pressed.
- If you find the apple logo appearing on the screen, you’ve pressed the home button for too long.
You won’t see anything on the screen while your phone is in DFU mode.
- If your device screen shows you a message to connect the device to iTunes, re-do the steps mentioned above.
DFU Restore in iPhone 7, 7s Plus
STEP 1
Connect your device to your personal computer using a working data cable.
STEP 2
Hold down side button and Volume down button together.
STEP 3
After 8 seconds, release the lock button but keep the side button pressed.
- If you find the apple logo appearing on the screen, you’ve pressed side button for too long.
You won’t see anything on the screen while your phone is in DFU mode.
- If your device screen shows you a message to connect the device to iTunes, re-do the steps mentioned above.
DFU Restore in iPhone 8, 8s Plus and iPhone X:
STEP 1
Connect your device to your personal computer using a working data cable.
STEP 2
Quickly press the Volume-Up button and release and then quickly press the Volume-Down button.
STEP 3
Hold down the side button until the screen goes black, then hold down the side button and volume down button together.
STEP 4
After 5 seconds, release the Side button but keep the Volume-Down button pressed.
- If you find the apple logo appearing on the screen, you’ve pressed the side button for too long.
You won’t see anything on the screen while your phone is in DFU mode.
- If your device screen shows you a message to connect the device to iTunes, re-do the steps mentioned above.
How to exit DFU Mode?
In order to exit the DFU mode, restart your phone normally.
- For iPad, iPod, iPhone 6, 6s, SE, hold the home button and side button together until the device reboots.
- For iPhone 7, 7s, Plus, hold the Side button and Volume-Down button together until the device reboots.
- For iPhone 8, 8s, Plus and iPhone X, quickly press the Volume-Up button and release then quickly press the Volume-Down button and release, then hold down the side button until the device reboots.
