How to Enable/Disable Mac Startup Sound through Terminal

In a Mac, you can enable or disable the startup sound whenever you want. To achieve the goal, a “Startup Mute” command is used in the terminal. In this guide, we will show you how to enable and disable Startup sound on Mac.

Enabling Start-up Sound on Mac

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Launch terminal manually or by using the Spotlight search by hitting Command + Space on your keyboard. Type “Terminal” in the Spotlight Search bar and press the “Return” key.searching from spotlight search

  1. The terminal window will appear on the screen which has a black background. Type the following command:

sudo NVRAM StartupMute=%00enter the password to make changes

  1. Hit the “Return” key after typing the command.
  2. Mac will ask you to type your log-in password to make the changes, enter your password and hit the “Return” key.

Once you have made the changes, restart your Mac to see if the startup chime works.

Disabling Start-up Sound on Mac

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Launch terminal manually or by using the Spotlight search by hitting Command + Space on your keyboard. Type “Terminal” in the Spotlight Search bar and press the “Return” key.launch the terminal
