In order to add an extra layer of security to your iPhone, you would want to set App lock on your Apps too but unfortunately, Apple doesn’t provide any way specifically to put App lock. In iOS 12, Apple introduced Screen Time with which you can restrict the usage of Apps. With this, you can lock apps individually or collectively given in categories.

This could be very useful if you want to hide certain app contents while handing your iPhone to someone and providing them with the Phone’s passcode.
Lock Apps using Screen Time
To lock particular Apps using Screen Time, follow the steps mentioned below:
- Go to Settings on your iPhone
- Scroll down the Settings menu to find Screen Time feature, Tap on Screen Time
- Make sure you have set Screen Time Passcode before using this feature as a layer of protection for your Apps. In order to do so, find Screen Time Passcode option in Screen time and type the code you want.
- Now Tap on App Limit
- In-App Limit screen, tap on Add Limit
- You can see all the categories on your screen now, choose whichever category you want to put a limit on. Tap on Add
- Set a timer to lock the Apps after a certain amount of time.
Apps would be locked after the amount of time that you have set the timer for them and you will have to provide the Passcode that you’ve set for the Screen Time.
How to Individually Put App Lock using Screen Time
First, you will have to remove the App Limit that you have put on the Apps collectively in categories. To set the App lock on individual apps using App limit, follow the instructions given below:
- Go to Settings on your iPhone
- Scroll down the Settings menu to find Screen Time feature, Tap on Screen Time
- Make sure you have set Screen Time Passcode before using this feature as a layer of protection for your Apps. In order to do so, find Screen Time Passcode option in Screen time and type the code you want.
- Now Tap on your device’s name given on the top of the Screen Time
- You can find the list of Apps and the amount of time you’ve used the App for.
- Tap on the App you want to set Lock on, and select Add Limit under the LIMITS heading
- Enter Screen Time passcode
- The set time limit for the App after which you will need to provide the passcode to view its contents.
